The trail can be accessed from the Fernie, B.C. area in the Heart of the Rocky Mountains. The trail starts up Hartly Lake road and is a approximately a 20 kilometer hike over high passes mountain meadows, caves and waterfalls ending at Island Lake Lodge close to the Fernie Provincial Park. You will experience a climb of 4500 feet / 1400 meter in elevation reaching the highest point of 7500 feet. The trail is suggested for hiking in July, August and September only. The trail is rated for all ages but is a long hike and some physical fitness is required. The hike does take the most of the day so you should leave at the latest mid morning to finish before dark. |
